Where to use this leather diffuser oil

Studies, living rooms, dining rooms. It suits a room where people sit and talk, and it is the leather diffuser oil we would put in a room you use for work as well as for company — the raspberry and thyme keep it alert, and the suede base means it never becomes oppressive over a long afternoon.

It runs well all year. There is enough fruit at the top for spring and enough resin underneath for December.

It is the leather diffuser oil in this family we would most readily put in a room with guests in it who have not chosen the scent themselves. Nothing about it is polarising: the smoke is low, the leather is soft, and the fruit gives people something familiar to hold on to.

Is The Gentleman right for you?

Choose it if you want a leather that is not trying to smell old. Alongside The Cowboy it is one of the two classic leathers here, but the two are easy to tell apart: The Cowboy is cool, powdery and clean, built on iris and cedar, while The Gentleman is warm, red and fruited, built on raspberry and saffron.

If the fruit puts you off, The Cowboy is the straighter answer. If you want the fruit but much more of everything else, The Doux takes the same red-and-spiced idea into whiskey, incense and vanilla and is a far heavier fragrance for it.

How to use it

This is a concentrated oil for cold-air diffusion, not a reed diffuser, candle or wax burner. Two or three drops in The Wisp Mini covers a study or a sitting room, and the Wisp Fragrance System runs it across a whole floor. The 10ml fits the Neom Pod Mini, and a few drops on a Wisp Aroma Stone works in a wardrobe, a drawer or a car.

It layers well with a plain wood oil if you want less fruit — try a small amount mixed in a spare bottle first.
