Wedding & event scenting

The scent of your wedding day. Kept forever.

You can give your wedding a scent of its own, and keep it. A Wisp Fragrance System is a cold-air diffuser; no flame, no heat, no water, so venues allow it where candles are banned. Typically, The Wisp fills a room of up to 430–500 m² and you choose one of our 31 diffuser oils that then runs on a schedule from your phone. It costs £160 to buy outright, £205 with a 125 ml bottle of oil. The machine is yours, so the scent that was in the air when you said “I do” is the scent of your home afterwards and forever. Think of it as a signature scent for the day — the one you take home.

The scent you will never forget

Of all the senses, smell is the one wired straight into memory. You cannot summon it on purpose, and you cannot stop it when it comes but the smell of a particular room, a coat, a garden in a particular month, can take you right back there. Photographs show you the day. A scent puts you in it.

And that is what this does – takes you back. Choose one oil for the room where you say your vows, or the room where you eat and dance, and it becomes the smell of that day, not a general wedding smell, but yours. Then take it home. The machine is yours, you will have used a fraction of a bottle, and from then on the hallway smells of your wedding. Guests who come round will notice it before they can say why.

It works the other way too. Years on, when a candle in a shop or a stranger’s garden happens to carry the same notes, and suddenly the whole day comes back to you. Most couples never get to choose what triggers that memory. You can.

How to scent a wedding venue on the day

Set the machine up an hour before guests arrive, in the room that matters most. The Wisp runs in short bursts on a schedule you set in the app, so the scent is there as people walk in rather than being heavy and overwhelming. It needs a mains socket and nothing else. If you are scenting more than one space, or a space over 500 m², it is one machine per room. Tell us the venue and we will tell you honestly what one machine will and won’t do.

Choosing your wedding scent

Start with the season and the room. Summer and garden weddings suit the citrus and green families; autumn and winter, the woody and spiced families; a floral is right almost anywhere. Our fragrance finder starts from mood rather than from a list, and the scent index describes all 31 oils by their notes. Choose at least a month before your wedding date so you can live with it at home first.  A scent you already love is the one you will want to keep.

What it costs

The Fragrance System is £160 and a 125 ml bottle of oil is £45, so £205 for the day and for every day after, with the oil hand-bottled in Nottingham. There is nothing else to pay and nothing to send back. The machine is a one-off purchase with free UK delivery, and the same oil is there whenever you want more of it.

The honest limits

It needs a socket, an hour’s lead time and a room with the doors mostly closed. It will not scent an open-sided marquee or a garden. Coverage is 430–500 m² at a normal ceiling height. Ask your venue before the day  to ensure they have no rules against fragrance machines. The answer is usually yes once they hear there is no flame and no water.

Questions couples ask us

Will the venue allow it?

Almost always. There is no flame, no heat and no water, so it falls outside the rules that ban candles. Show them this page.

Can you scent a wedding venue without candles?

Yes. Most barns, listed buildings and hotels ban naked flames; a cold-air diffuser has no flame, no heat and no water, so it is allowed where candles are not.

How strong is it?

Adjustable from the app, and designed to be noticed on entering rather than overpowering. We recommend starting low; you can turn it up between the ceremony and the meal.

Can we try the scent first?

Yes, and you should! Order the oil early and run it at home. Changing your mind afterwards takes a quarter of an hour. Run rubbing alcohol through the reservoir for five minutes, empty it and refill.

Does it work for other events?

The same machine does product launches, private dinners, open houses and showrooms. Businesses that want this every week should read For Business.

What if we only want it for one room, or a smaller space?

The Wisp Mini covers one room of up to around 80 m² for £30 and is the right choice for a bridal suite or a small ceremony room.
