Where to use this leather diffuser oil

Living rooms and hallways. This is the leather diffuser oil that behaves in a shared space — it is legible from the doorway but it does not take the room over, and it does not smell like something has been smoked indoors. Bedrooms work too, thanks to the iris and violet, which keep the whole thing soft enough to sleep near.

It reads best in autumn and winter but it is not a seasonal scent, and it holds up in a room with the windows open, which the heavier leathers do not.

It is also the leather diffuser oil we would choose for a room used for work. Iris and papyrus keep it dry and unsweet, so it stays in the background over a long day rather than becoming something you have to think about.

Is The Cowboy right for you?

Choose it if you want the leather without the drama. Alongside The Gentleman it is one of the two classic leathers in the range, but where The Gentleman is fruited and tailored, The Cowboy is cool and clean — cardamom, iris and cedar rather than raspberry and saffron.

Go elsewhere if you want more. The Doux is the sweet, boozy one, all whiskey and incense and vanilla, and it is a considerably bigger fragrance. The Hyde is the modern option, lighter and more floral at the top, if even this feels too traditional.

If you are buying your first leather, buy this one. It is the least likely to be disliked by anyone else living in the house, and it gives you a clear reference point for whether you want to go sweeter, softer or heavier next.

How to use it

This is a concentrated oil for cold-air diffusion — not a reed diffuser, a candle or a wax burner. Two or three drops in The Wisp Mini covers a living room, and the Wisp Fragrance System will run it across a whole floor. The 10ml fits the Neom Pod Mini, and a few drops on a Wisp Aroma Stone is very good in a wardrobe or a car, where the leather and cedar do most of the work.
