Where to use this aquatic diffuser oil

Bathrooms, bedrooms and hallways. Tiled rooms suit it best — the mineral, saline quality of an aquatic diffuser oil holds its own against soap and steam instead of being flattened by them, and the seaweed base gives it something to sit on once the top notes have gone.

Bedrooms are the second call. Ambergris and cedar make the dry-down calm enough to sleep in, and there is no sugar in the blend to keep you awake. In a hallway it does something useful: it is the first thing anyone smells on the way in, and it reads as fresh air rather than air freshener.

Is The Beach right for you?

Choose it if you like marine scents but find most of them too clean. The seaweed and ambergris give this one grit. It smells like actual coastline — wet rope, cold stone, seaweed drying on a groyne — rather than the blue, laundered version of the sea that most aquatics settle for.

Skip it if you want something soft and spa-like. The Tide is the better choice there: cucumber, crocus and cold seawater over jasmine and rose, quieter and more polished, with none of the low-tide edge. If you want the aquatic family with flowers doing most of the work, The Garden opens on grapefruit and bergamot and moves into lotus and water lily instead.

It is also worth knowing that this one divides people. The aldehyde is assertive in the first ten minutes and the seaweed is unmistakable in the last hour. Anyone who grew up near the sea tends to take to it immediately.

How to use it

This is a concentrated oil for cold-air diffusion — not a reed diffuser, not a candle, and not a wax burner. Two or three drops in The Wisp Mini will cover a bathroom or a bedroom, and the full-size Wisp Fragrance System will carry it across a whole floor.
