Where to use this spiced diffuser oil

Living rooms, dining rooms and studies — rooms with soft furnishings and low light. A spiced diffuser oil this dry needs somewhere to settle, and it improves in a room that has been closed up and warm for a couple of hours.

It is at its best from about September to February. In July it feels wrong, and there is no point pretending otherwise. Bathrooms and kitchens are not for it; the moss and fir read as musty in a damp room.

Is The Fall right for you?

Buy it if "spiced" to you means dry, woody and resinous rather than festive. This is closer to a proper autumn woody fragrance than to anything you would find in a Christmas candle, and that is deliberate.

Buy it too if you already like frankincense or cedar and have been looking for something with more going on than a single-note woody oil.

Give it a miss if you want something bright, sweet or year-round. The High is the alternative within the same family — fig, black pepper, orange and lemon over sandalwood, considerably lighter and much easier in summer. If you like the wood and want less spice altogether, The Kingsman is worth comparing, built on cardamom and black pepper but sitting in the warm woody family instead.

How to use it

This is a concentrated oil for cold-air diffusion. It is not a reed diffuser refill and it should never be burned in a candle or a wax burner — heat pushes the resins forward and loses the pepper entirely, which turns a balanced blend into something one-dimensional.
