Aquatic scents are the hardest family to describe and the easiest to recognise: the air on a beach in the morning, a cold wave, a pond with the lilies out. We make three. One is properly of the sea — aldehyde, coriander, seaweed, iris. One is a cold tide with cucumber and crocus. One is a garden pond, grapefruit and bergamot over lotus and water lily. All three suit bathrooms, kitchens and light-filled rooms in summer, and they are the family to run when you want the house to smell of nothing in particular except clean.
